The launch of the Tree Charter

By Mark Chester, 27 November 2017

This month, we are starting a new feature, where we look at the services offered by certain
members, aspects of which are not standard to most consultants, and which could assist other
members. We start with an offering from Cedarwood Tree Care designed to help those starting their
journey as a consultant and working on the best template for a BS5837:2012 tree report. We have
developed an on-line template where you provide the site-specific data and, for a small fee, we
convert this in to a professionally presented report. Contact mark@cedarwoodtreecare.co.uk for
more details.
We did it! The launch of the Tree Charter at Lincoln Castle on 6th November went really well. Thanks
to all of you who attended – especially all those who spoke at the reception in the Chapter House or
at the Castle.

800 people came through the gates at the Castle over the course of the event. There were well-
mannered and good natured queues to view the Tree Charter and sign the ledger in oak gall ink

throughout the event, and despite the cold even the later speakers had a good crowd.

---National Tree Week---
The Tree Council has led on press for National Tree Week, referencing the Tree Charter Day and
revamping their online map to show the breadth of activity around the UK in support of trees. We
have a number of Tree Charter Launch events around the UK – signposted with a Charter Mark icon.

Please signpost this map, and highlight your own activities using #NationalTreeWeek #TreeCharter
A blog will go up on Woodland Trust on Saturday highlighting National Tree Week and the link to
Tree Charter’s legacy. Feel free to link to this if you don’t have your own National Tree Week
explanation.
Mortgage Course
We are now taking bookings for the Lantra Mortgage course to be run at Myerscough College in
May. The launch event is nearly fully-booked. Places are available on the Tree Preservation
Orders, Young Trees, and Amenity Tree Valuation. Peer reviews for BS5837:2012 tree reports can
be submitted at any time. Contact mark@consultingarboristsociety.com for more details. Don’t
forget that the CAS app is available to download and you can access the e-magazine from the
website. This contains details on CAS courses and member benefits along with information on the
services of our associate organisations.
The Knapp Vera Rewilding Conference
British Wildlife recently published details of a conference at Knapp Vera, which was reviewed by
Miles King. You can access this via the link. The conference explored the practical implications of
re-wilding.
